Kelleigh Boland and her colleagues at Three Rivers Workforce Investment Board are using EMSI’s analysis to help compile a report detailing the state of the workforce in a 10-county region of southwestern Pennsylvania. By looking at a number of workforce indicators including relative concentration, regional competitiveness, and sales figures in EMSI’s web-based tool, TRWIB can show the high-demand and emerging industries in southwestern PA. “It’s hard to look at all the factors and choose specific industries,” Boland says. “But whatever we choose, we want to look down at the 4- and 6-digit NAICS codes to get an idea of where we’re most competitive and productive as a region.” The TRWIB 2008 State of the Workforce report will be used a launching pad for community roundtables and discussions, as well as to build a framework on how the TRWIB looks at its current and future programs.
