Greenwood Village, Colo. — Job-seekers in metro-Denver now have a new online hub to assist them with their job search and find tools to become a more competitive candidate for employment.
The Arapahoe/Douglas Works! workforce center has completed a cyber-makeover of its Web site at www.adworks.org to improve its usefulness and interactivity for job-seekers and employers alike. The site was designed by Unleaded Software, Inc. of Denver. It boasts a new look and feel, along with a wide array of new tools and resources on job-search skills, work-readiness, the labor market and much more.
“As a publicly-funded workforce center, Arapahoe/Douglas Works! exists to support job-seekers and employers with no-cost employment services,” said Arapahoe County Commissioner Jim Dyer. “Logically, the workforce center’s Web site is the best place to begin any job-search or recruitment process and find tips, tools and resources on employment in our region.”
Among the Web site’s new features are:
- A job search toolbox with tips on résumés, cover letters, job applications, interviewing, networking and more;
- An interactive calendar of upcoming events offered at the workforce center, including free job- search and career-readiness workshops, hiring events, information sessions, computer tutorials, and ESL and pre-GED classes
- A list of free personality and skills assessments available at the workforce center
- The option to subscribe to RSS feeds to receive notice of upcoming events and any news or
resources that are made available on the web site.- A comprehensive list of job search sites, along with a regularly-updated job board of youth-
friendly positions.- Extensive industry profiles to give an employment snapshot of 14 leading regional industries.
- Reports and data on Colorado’s workforce outlook
The most innovative new job-search tool is CareerCoach developed by Economic Modeling Specialists Inc. of Idaho. CareerCoach delivers job listings from Indeed.com, a one-stop search engine that collects listings from across the internet, and then goes the extra mile to help individuals find alternative career opportunities that fit their skill set.
When a job-seeker enters their desired occupation in CareerCoach, the tool will bring up regional average earnings in that occupation, the number of people in a region who do the job, projections for growth, and a list of local providers that offer required education and training. In addition, CareerCoach offers a list of suggested occupations that have similar knowledge and skill requirements, but may offer better opportunity.
“CareerCoach will revolutionize the way job-seekers look for jobs, especially those who have faced layoffs in the recession, by helping them to understand how to upgrade or transfer their skills to a different career,” said Arapahoe/Douglas Works! Division Manager Joe Barela. “This tool is such a valuable addition to Arapahoe/Douglas Works! services, since our focus is to teach individuals how to become a more marketable and employable candidate.”
CareerCoach can be found on the Web site by clicking “Job-Seekers”, then “Search Jobs.” For more information about the Arapahoe/Douglas Works! workforce center’s free services for businesses and job-seekers, please call 303-636-1160 or visit www.adworks.org.
