Lone Star College Introduces Career Coach

Here is an article from YourHoustonNews.com about how Lone Star College – Montgomery is using Career Coach, EMSI’s web-based labor market tool designed for students and jobseekers.

Here is an excerpt from the article (full version here):

To meet the demand of thousands of students in search of career guidance, Lone Star College-Montgomery is offering a new and easily accessible software called Career Coach.

Meant to supplement student meetings with an adviser, the program provides in-depth and current information regarding career paths and what programs the college offers to get students through the door. After an initial pilot program in 2010 with LSC-Cy-Fair, the remaining college branches got on board.

“We thought it had potential at helping students find jobs because we serve so many individuals, it’s almost impossible to give one-on-one, current information to students,” said LSC-Cy-Fair President Audre Levy. “Since the fall of 2010, we’ve had more than 7,000 hits on the website.”

Created and sponsored by Economic Modeling Specialists Inc., the colleges are responsible for providing information on their academic programs while EMSI updates employment data for current figures and job postings. Although the software’s functions remain the same throughout the college’s different branches, job openings differ per location and all data is drawn from a 50-mile radius surrounding each school.
