What is the SEIM Study?

The SEIM study estimates the impact of colleges in terms of job and income formation, higher earnings captured by the students, returns to taxpayers, and a broad collection of social benefits and avoided costs. Two analyses are included in the study:

Regional Economic Growth Analysis:

College Operation Effects: The role that college operations spending plays in the region in terms of job growth and income formation.
Student Spending Effects: Impacts associated with students who come from outside the service area to attend college.
Past Student Productivity Effects: The cumulative impacts of past and present students in expanding the regional economy - measured in terms of added regional income.

Investment Analysis:

• Student Investment Analysis: The benefits received by students as a result of their college education.
• Taxpayer Investment Analysis: The state and local taxpayer's return on investment in terms of a reduced tax burden and an assortment of social benefits such as, improved health, lower crime, and reduced welfare and unemployment.
