Various blogs and media outlets have linked to a chart, originally at Paul Kedrosky’s site, that shows the ratio of the unemployed workers versus job openings in the largest US metros. Not surprisingly, Detroit has the worst ratio (18 to 1) while Washington DC and Baltimore have the best (1 to 1).
This data comes straight from Indeed.com, which posts a handy list that ranks the metros in these two simple metrics. Here is the top 10, as of September 2009:
Indeed also has this nice map showing job postings per capita. Detroit is last on this list too, with 14 job postings for every 1,000 people.
