The Department of Labor has announced a new batch of green job grants to 25 recipients across the US. In all, $100 million of ARRA funds will go out to strategic partnerships to train dislocated workers, with awards ranging from $1.4 to $5 million for each.
More than a quarter of the money ($28 million) is targeted to communities impacted by the auto industry downturn. Many of the award recipients are labor organizations.
According to the release, “These grants are part of a larger Recovery Act initiative — totaling $500 million — to fund workforce development projects that promote economic growth by preparing workers for careers in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. The Department of Labor expects to release funding for two remaining green grant award categories over the next several weeks.”
This latest round of grants comes on the heels of the DOL’s November announcement. See more here.
