EMSI just made some significant updates and improvements to Career Coach, a tool that helps colleges communicate with students and potential students about careers and the local labor market. The new features are largely related to letting our clients further customize Career Coach to better aid their current and prospective students. As we explained recently, the goal of the tool is to help students create a strong career vision, which ultimately helps higher education administrators address enrollment, retention, and labor market outcomes.
So, with that, here are the major updates worth noting in Career Coach, version 2.1:
The search feature contains two updates that a lot of clients wanted to see:
1. Enhanced search algorithm. The search now includes lay titles, custom keywords, staffing patterns, and associated mappings, which is great for tailoring searches for your region.
In the example below, we associated the search term “hospital,” which is an industry, with nursing aide, orderly and attendant, an occupation that is common inside the general medical and surgical hospitals industry.
2. Custom keywords. In addition, you can tag occupations and programs with your own search terms, thus ensuring that the search results suit your college and help your visitors.
In this case, we associated terms like “CPA” and the name of an accounting firm with accountants and auditors, an official occupation title.
Occupations & Programs
Choose which occupations and programs you’d like to show up first in the “Related Occupations & Programs” sections. Change this with a simple drag-and-drop interface on every Occupation & Program page, as well as the Featured Careers section on the homepage.
The image below demonstrates how programs can easily be sorted. If you want to move it, just click, drag, and drop. You can also easily add or delete programs or occupations.
We have given you more control over how Career Coach looks and feels on your website. The traditional, more minimalistic banner is the standard design, but you can now also switch over to the full-width banner. This pushes the toolbar further down the screen and gives room for your college’s own logo, keeping the appearance of Career Coach closer to other pages of your website.
See examples below (first full-width banner, then the traditional):
Note: If you are interested in further customization, you can also produce your own Career Coach URL. Instead of keeping “.emsicareercoach” in the URL, you can customize it so that students don’t get the impression they’ve left the college website.
The admin section is more robust than ever:
1. User data. We can now tell you the top locations that students are visiting Career Coach from, as well as each visitor’s sign-up date and last-visit date
See the images below for examples.
2. New features. Other new features include (1) custom date ranges, (2) more filtering and drag-and-drop editing throughout the site, and (3) the ability for users to download occupation reports from the site (see an example below).
And there’s more!
