“It does more than just find jobs; it allows people to find career paths.” — George Sackett of St. Louis Community College on Career Coach
When St. Louis Community College unveiled Career Coach, EMSI’s online tool that connects a college’s programs to solid career opportunities, it made a big splash by introducing a 36-foot computer- and Wi-Fi-equipped trailer that traveled throughout St. Louis and allowed students and local residents to test-drive the tool.
The college also put together a neat video that highlights the value of Career Coach — putting valuable information on jobs, programs, and job postings all in one place. But as George Sackett, STLCC’s district coordinator for web communications, puts in the video, the tool does more than merely share information on jobs. It helps current and prospective students understand the road they need to take to get into the career they want.
Gina Benesh, manager of career and technical education at STLCC, said the tool is central to the mission of the college: “We want to prepare our students for the local workforce, and that they can get jobs that are available to them when they complete their certificate or degree program. So Career Coach is going to offer that opportunity to our students.”
Added Benesh, “Career Coach on our website will lead our students to jobs that are available in St. Louis City and St. Louis County. And it really takes the services we offer our residents … [to] a new level.
