George Brown College became the latest institution—and the first in the Toronto area—to launch Career Coach, EMSI’s online tool that maps a college’s programs to solid career opportunities. Designed to provide a seamless transition between the college’s website and the customized tool, Career Coach feels familiar to students and, with the click of a mouse, offers easy-to-understand data as guidance through complex career decisions.
By providing free and easy access to critical labour market information specific to the Greater Toronto Area via Career Coach, George Brown equips students to make informed choices. The tool aims to help students start their course of study with deliberate, in-demand career goals so that they remain motivated throughout their college experience, finish their degree or certificate programs, and find fulfilling careers in the region.
“Students need this information to make critical decisions about their education. It isn’t just nice to know; it’s absolutely essential for students to make wise education decisions on their path to future employment.” — Robert Luke, George Brown College
For example, using Career Coach, George Brown identified the following growing jobs in the Greater Toronto Area: marketing researcher or consultant, computer and information systems manager, construction manager, registered nurse, and chef (among others). Each of these jobs is mapped in Career Coach, both to an education program that would teach the technical skills necessary to be hired and to a career pathway that estimates wages from entry level to the end of career.
“Students need this information to make critical decisions about their education,” says Robert Luke, Vice President of Research and Innovation at George Brown College. “It isn’t just nice to know; it’s absolutely essential for students to make wise education decisions on their path to future employment.”
