Trending Tech Tuesday is a weekly series where I share tech skills that are trending in Emsi’s job postings data. Emsi is a labor market analytics firm that continuously searches millions of job postings across the web. Last week, I talked about Tensorflow and deep learning. Today’s trending tech skill is Prometheus.
12-month growth rate in unique postings for Prometheus: 282%
What is Prometheus? Prometheus is an open-source systems and service monitoring tool that collects and monitors time-series data. Prometheus was initially developed at SoundCloud in 2012 to combine key features found separately in various systems into a single monitoring system (a multi-dimensional data model, operational simplicity, scalable data collection, and a powerful query language). From prometheus.io:
“Prometheus works well for recording any purely numeric time series. It fits both machine-centric monitoring as well as monitoring of highly dynamic service-oriented architectures. In a world of microservices, its support for multi-dimensional data collection and querying is a particular strength.
Prometheus is designed for reliability, to be the system you go to during an outage to allow you to quickly diagnose problems. Each Prometheus server is standalone, not depending on network storage or other remote services. You can rely on it when other parts of your infrastructure are broken, and you do not need to setup extensive infrastructure to use it.”
