Trending Tech Tuesday: Grafana

October 16, 2018 By Aaron Olanie

Welcome to the 12th installment of Trending Tech Tuesday, our weekly look at the trending tech skills in Emsi’s job postings data. Last week, we talked about the distributed streaming platform Apache Kafka. Today, we’ll talk about Grafana and introduce a new section quantifying the skills gap.

12-month growth rate in unique postings for Grafana: 215%

What is Grafana?

Grafana is an open-source data visualization and monitoring tool. We all know the power of being able to provide context and tell a story with data. Data visualization is an integral part of that. Over the last 12-months, we saw 47,679 data visualization jobs with a growth rate of 29%.

From Grafana.com:

“Grafana allows you to query, visualize, alert on and understand your metrics no matter where they are stored.”

Aside from awesome visualizations, Grafana has a very active user community that is constantly adding dashboards and plugins to the library. So while users can build something from the ground up, they can also take advantage of someone else’s genius and creativity and apply it directly to their use case.

During September, we found 2,308 job postings requiring Grafana. But only 774 professionals listed Grafana as a skill on their resume or social profile. That means there are currently 1,534 more jobs requiring Grafana than there are professionals with the skill.

This could be a great program opportunity for continuing and professional education providers.
