COVID-19 is wreaking havoc on the United States, both medically and economically. With the situation changing quickly, we built a job posting dashboard to help you navigate the labor market’s response to COVID-19 in real time.
In Emsi’s dashboard, you can track monthly job posting trends and compare to 2019 averages. You can also filter by region, industry, company, job, and skill.
Now, educators, businesses, economic and workforce developers, and policymakers can see who is hiring, identify which skills are in demand, and analyze trends in their region’s economy.
For example, if you wanted to see how COVID-19 is affecting U.S. restaurants on a monthly basis, you would select “United States” as your region and “Food Services and Drinking Places” as your industry. Then, you can view the map in terms of postings, percent change month over month, and percent change from last year.
Track which companies are hiring
Updated monthly, the dashboard will help you track the labor market’s response to COVID-19 as it unfolds and show you the evolving needs of employers, down to the state level. For example, Amazon recently announced plans to hire 100,000 warehouse and delivery workers to keep up with increased demand.
Using the dashboard, we can see that at the end of March, Amazon had over 56,300 active job postings—up 97% from last year. The vast majority of the postings are in Washington state.
We can also see which occupations within Amazon are most affected by this hiring spree. Software developers take the lead with the most active job postings (nearly 7,000), up 7% from last year. But it’s the warehouse and delivery occupations that have seen the most massive jumps from last year.
