Matthew Hubacher, Research Director at Invest Buffalo Niagara, shared with us how they use data for everything from target industry analyses to identifying skill demand in software development and cybersecurity roles.
Invest Buffalo Niagara (InBN) is the private, non-profit regional economic development organization for the eight counties of western New York. Our mission is to facilitate job creation and capital investment in our region. To support business attraction, expansion, and entrepreneurship, InBN collaborates with numerous private and public sector partners to deliver a unified response to regional economic development opportunities.
Invest Buffalo Niagara leverages Emsi Burning Glass data in nearly every initiative in which we are involved. This includes target industry analyses, lead generation efforts, workforce availability analyses, creation and maintenance of our regional Economic Guide, and targeted marketing efforts through our talent attraction campaign “Be in Buffalo.”
Buffalo Niagara is home to dozens of academic institutions and workforce development agencies. To encourage training program alignment, Invest Buffalo Niagara has taken the proactive approach of generating refined and actionable data insights through Emsi Burning Glass reports.
Especially in supporting IT curricula providers, InBN utilized Emsi Burning Glass data to develop skills-based job postings reports to identify the employer demand in software development and cybersecurity. The reports are shared monthly with relevant organizations across the Buffalo Niagara region to provide current data on potential employer partners to engage in workforce efforts. With thousands of tech jobs currently available and thousands more openings anticipated in the coming years, this information is vital to inform our community’s response to an urgent workforce shortage.
